Description
Beginning wheel throwing will meet weekly on Monday evenings for 8 weeks.
For beginners and those with some clay experience who want to deepen foundational throwing skills and learn new ones. Learning and practicing centering, shaping basic forms, trimming, pulling handles, decorating and glazing.
Up to 4 additional hours of independent studio time per week are included with tuition. Tuition cost is $340 including up to 25 lbs of clay.
It is suggested that students have their own tools. Tools are also available to borrow from the studio. Basic throwing tools can be purchased online, or at a clay supply company.
Sam Friedland is a potter, performing artist, and experimental musician living in the Pioneer Valley. As a percussionist (BA jazz studies, MFA Experimental Sound Practices) they enjoy thinking about time, and see pottery as a bridge between internal, biological time and deep, geological time. Sam’s current work centers around teaware for Chinese and Japanese tea service.
Sam has taught private and group lessons with students of all ages/abilities, and spent the last 6 years as a public school art and music teacher (k-8). Their teaching style prioritizes accessibility, experimentation and play!
