Taking Your Throwing to the Next Level
For Advanced Beginners & Intermediate Potters
This class is ideal for advanced beginners and intermediate potters who want to strengthen their foundation, improve their technique, and discover a more fluid, enjoyable way of working at the wheel.
Rather than relying on strength alone, we’ll explore how sensitivity, balance, and body mechanics create better pots. Through demonstrations and individual guidance, you’ll learn to recognize the subtle feedback the clay offers, allowing your hands to become more responsive and your movements more efficient.
Topics will include:
● Developing a more reliable and relaxed centering technique
● Opening and pulling with greater control and sensitivity
● Refining touch to create even walls and balanced forms
● Understanding how body alignment and posture affect throwing
● Improving consistency in shape, thickness, and proportion
● Troubleshooting common throwing challenges
Throughout the class, we’ll emphasize learning to feel the clay rather than forcing it. As your touch becomes more refined, throwing becomes less about muscle and more about awareness, rhythm, and connection.
Tuition $340 includes up to 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firing.
Students are encouraged to bring thier own tools.
The class includes up to 4 hours of independent practice time in the studio per week.
